Chandigarh: Kapurthala MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh on Monday launched web portal www.barsatimakki.com to promote the cultivation of maize as an alternative to water-guzzling paddy. Two killed in road accident
Ferozepur: Two persons died on the spot while three sustained serious injuries in a road accident on the Ferozepur-Fazilka highway on Monday. The deceased were identified as Vijay Kumar of Guruharsahai and Gurpreet Singh, alias Gaura, of Miraj Kanewali in Uttar Pradesh. oc
11 injured in road mishap
Muktsar: Eleven persons travelling in a modified vehicle were injured after a pick-up vehicle collided with it near a government college on the Bathinda-Malout road on the outskirts of Gidderbaha on Monday. Four injured were referred to a Bathinda hospital for treatment. TNS
NGT pulls up officials
Chandigarh: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has pulled up Punjab Government officials for failing to stick to the timeline to address the issue of stagnant water at Jargari village of Khanna. A complaint in this regard was filed by residents of the village. The issue was taken up by a four-member bench of the green panel. TNS
Stone for water project laid
Chandigarh: Punjab Local Government Minister Ravjot Singh on Monday laid the foundation stone for a water supply project worth Rs 33.66 crore at Rajpura. The minister said the project had been launched as part of the AMRUT 2.0 scheme, which includes laying of a 57- km pipeline. He said the project would benefit 50,000 residents. TNS

Chandigarh: Top performing students of Classes 10 and 12 at state-run schools on Monday met top bureaucrats and police officers under the “Ek Din, DC/SSP De Sang” initiative.
