Briefs: 150 gm chitta seized, 5 held
Ropar: Five youths involved in drug peddling were arrested with 150 gm chitta under the ongoing campaign against drugs. Digital weighing scale and Rs 15,000 drug money were also seized from them. Ropar SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana said the arrests were made at a naka near the ITI-Nangal. Those arrested were Ravinder Kumar, Manpreet Singh, Shubham Thakur, Biku and Amit Kumar. TNS
Ex-tehsildar booked for fraud
Ropar: The Ropar police have registered a case of fraud against six persons, including former Tehsildar Ram Kishan of Nangal subdivision. The case relates to an alleged forged will and transferring of a stone crusher in the name of some individuals, thereby duping the legal heirs of its deceased owner. The case was registered following a complaint by Mandeep Kaur of Sangatpur village who alleged that the accused created a forged will after the death of her husband Jaspal Singh and got the stone crusher transferred in the name of other persons. Farmers protest outside jail
Muktsar: Farmers, under the banner of the Bharti Kisan Union (Ekta-Sidhupur), staged a protest outside the district jail here on Tuesday. They were demanding permission to meet fellow farmers from Bathinda's Ghasokhana village, who are jailed in connection with a dispute. The protesters alleged the jail administration denied meetings without explanation. Later, the farmers claimed that after a meeting with the jail officials, the issue was resolved. TNS
