Briefs: Early release for 108 prisoners in Punjab in a year

Chandigarh: The Punjab Government allowed early release to 108 prisoners serving life sentence in the past year. These prisoners had demonstrated exemplary conduct during their incarceration, according to Jails Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar. He said the step aimed at providing rehabilitation opportunities to the inmates showing good conduct. He said the move was part of the state government’s comprehensive strategy to ensure that the justice system not only punished but also facilitated the re-establishment and reintegration of such individuals in society.

814 teachers promoted

Chandigarh: The Punjab School Education Department has elevated 814 master-cadre teachers to the position of lecturers, said Education Minister Harjot Bains. He said these promotions encompassed a wide range of subjects, including 360 Punjabi, 271 political science, 135 English, 40 commerce, two Sanskrit, one fine arts, three home science and two sociology lecturers.

Appointment letters given

Chandigarh: Jails and Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar on Thursday handed over appointment letters to three newly recruited officials of the Prisons Department. Two warder-rank officials and one Group D employee have been recruited on compassionate grounds.
