Briefs: Houses of suspected drug traffickers raided

Abohar: SSP Gurmeet Singh, along with his team of over 100 cops, raided the houses of suspected drug traffickers under the cordon and search (CASO) operation in the colonies considered drug hotspots on Friday. Raids began in the morning and continued till 12 noon in Sant Nagar, Seed Farm and Indira Nagari areas. In a separate incident, police arrested biker Kirpal Singh Pala of Chandiwala village, Ferozepur, and seized heroin from him.

2 Covid-19 cases in Mansa

Muktsar: A 28-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl have tested positive for Covid-19 in Mansa district. While the girl was quarantined, the boy, who is a migrant labourer, reportedly fled after the test. Despite repeated attempts, Dr Arvind Pal Singh, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Mansa, could not be contacted for comments.

Accused flees from custody

Muktsar: A day after a drug peddler escaped from the police custody at the Civil Hospital, Mansa, the police are clueless about his whereabouts. Notably, the incident was caught on CCTV cameras. Accused Sandeep Singh was allegedly arrested with 7 gm of heroin and Rs 18,200 drug money.

Protest by NHM employees

Sangrur: The National Health Mission (NHM) Employees Union has decided to oppose AAP in the Ludhiana (West) bypoll by holding a protest there on June 15. It plans to distribute 10,000 pamphlets in the bazars and mohallas of the constituency to "expose" the government. The employees are up in arms against the state government due to the non-fulfilment of their demands.
