Briefs: NGO gives monthly pension to 138 persons in Sangrur

Sangrur: The Sangrur unit of the Sarbat Da Bhala Charitable Trust, being run by philanthropist SP Singh Oberoi, on Tuesday gave monthly pension to 138 beneficiaries, besides giving financial assistance for medical treatment to 10 needy persons, at a function here. The programme was presided over by district president Sukhminder Singh Harman.

Four booked for displaying weapons on social media

Abohar: Taking cognisance of the trend among youths to upload videos on social media carrying weapons, the City-2 police have booked four residents of Thakur Abadi under Sections 351(2), 112(2) and 324(2) of the BNS and Section 25 of the Arms Act. They were identified as Yashwant, alias Raman, Kartik, alias Daku, Pradeep and Manga. The SHO said they made a video carrying sharp-edged weapons and uploaded that on Instagram.

Politics over waterlogging

Kotkapura: While heavy rain has left much of Kotkapura submerged, it has triggered a political blame game rather than coordinated relief efforts. Instead of addressing the recurring crisis of waterlogging, local politicians have chosen to trade accusations, with AAP councillors on Monday locking the gates of the municipal council office in protest. Led by MC's Senior Vice-President Swatantra Joshi, several AAP-affiliated councillors accused Congress-backed council president Bhupinder Singh Saggu of deliberately stalling civic works.
