A youth allegedly murdered his sister and brother-in-law with sharp-edged weapons over a dispute regarding their father’s ancestral property in Kaneyanwale village in Faridkot. The police have arrested the accused and registered a case against him.
According to reports, the dispute involved Arshpreet Singh, son of Gamdoor Singh, and his married sister, Harpreet Kaur, who lived in Moga.
Gamdoor, who had been unwell for a long time, reportedly intended to transfer his ancestral land to his three daughters due to his son’s drug addiction. However, his wife wanted the property to go to their son. This disagreement created tensions within the family, leading to Gamdoor and his wife dividing the property between them.
Gamdoor Singh had three daughters: the eldest, Harpreet Kaur, was married; the second was widowed, and the youngest was still studying. As Gamdoor’s health deteriorated, Harpreet stayed at her parental home to care for him, accompanied by her husband, Resham Singh.
On Friday morning, in a fit of rage over the land dispute, Arshpreet allegedly attacked his sister and brother-in-law with sharp weapons, killing them on the spot.
Sources revealed that Gamdoor owned approximately eight acres of land, and Arshpreet suspected his father might transfer his share to Harpreet. Fearing he would lose his inheritance, he carried out the gruesome murder.
Village Sarpanch Chand Singh said that frequent arguments occurred between the siblings over minor issues. He further revealed that Arshpreet was addicted to drugs and often caused disturbances at home.
