Brother of Mandeep, stuck in warzone, to leave for Russia on March 31
In July last year, the news of Russia deciding to release Indian nationals fighting for its army came as a ray of hope for Goraya-based Jagdeep Kumar whose brother is believed to be stuck in the warzone.
"Bad thoughts keep crossing my mind. We will heave a sigh of relief only when he actually returns home,” Jagdeep Kumar, had shared his feelings with The Tribune. "No news of his well-being or whereabouts has kept our family on tenterhooks. We are desperate to hear from him. Each time I come home, my parents are hopeful that I will bring some good news, but that hasn’t happened yet," he had then added.
But, almost a year later, he is empty handed as his brother has not returned home and he is now leaving for Russia on March 31. He has taken the decision to go there and know about his brother by himself.
"We will meet Indian Embassy officials in Moscow and ask the actual status of our kin,” added Jagdeep. Recently, he met Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha member Balbir Singh Seechewal and an official from the Ministry of External Affairs in this regard.
"When my brother reached Russia, he was tricked into joining the Russian army,” the Goraya resident alleged.
Adding to the distress, Jagdeep claimed that he himself was duped of Rs 6 lakh by the same agent, who had promised to send his brother from Armenia to Italy via Russia, Finland and Germany.
