BSF officials said intelligence was developed over a period of more than a week and reconnaissance of the probable drone-dropping spot was also carried out. After assessment, BSF operational teams laid an ambush in the suspected area on the evening of January 29.

Around 11:30 pm, the ambush party heard the suspected sound of a drone and observed three individuals moving towards a packet that was dropped. They were apprehended and a pistol and a magazine with four rounds were recovered from them.

According to the BSF officials, the leader of the group confessed that multiple drone sorties had been planned in collusion with Pakistan-based smugglers. The arrest of these persons revealed the identity of two other associates, who are absconding.

The operation continued and further monitoring of the drone sorties revealed a video call exchange between an Indian and a Pakistani smuggler identified as Rana, his brother and another associate, Saha.

In the video call, the Pakistani smuggler passed instructions to his Indian counterpart about handing over part of the consignment to a courier in the hinterland. This led to the arrest of another person and the seizure of more narcotics and currency.

In addition to the arrest of four persons, nine packets of heroin and a packet of methamphetamine, both weighing about 5.9 kg, a pistol with four rounds, currency amounting to Rs 70,140 and a scooter were seized.
