Deputy Commissioner Dalwinderjit Singh said the Ravi was in spate and he had ordered the evacuation from nearly half a dozen villages in Dinanagar. The officials who witnessed the rescue operation said the BSF men took huge risk to save the villagers.

The rescue mission was planned and executed by the water-wing of the force in the Gurdaspur sector.

They used an inflatable boat to ferry people.

Meanwhile, the Gurdaspur administration is making special efforts to ensure inhabitants of all seven villages located on the other side of the Ravi, adjoining the Pakistan border, are provided with food and items of daily use. These villages are referred to as ‘Us-Paar’ villages. For the last several days, these villages have been cut-off from mainland India.
