BSF seize two AK-47 rifles, a pistol from Tarn Taran's border
Claim to have averted a major terror plot
Ahead of Diwali festival, the Border Security Force (BSF) on Monday claimed to have averted a major terror plot by confiscating sophisticated and deadly weapons, including two AK-47 rifles along with a pistol and ammunition from Tarn Taran’s Mehdipur village.
The weapons were smuggled from Pakistan in the border state.
According to a BSF spokesperson, the operation was launched after suspicious movement was detected through the force’s technical surveillance grid, which was immediately verified through on-ground monitoring by jawans deployed on duty at the International border.
On being alerted, the troops swiftly moved to the spot and carried out a thorough search operation ahead of the border fence.
During the search, the BSF personnel recovered two AK-47 rifles along with two magazines, one pistol with a magazine and 10 live rounds. The cache was found concealed in a field area close to the India – Pakistan border, likely intended to be retrieved later by Indian handlers linked to Pakistan-based terror outfits.
The recovery once again exposed the continuing efforts of Pakistani agencies and terror groups to smuggle arms into India using the border belt of Punjab as a conduit, said BSF spokesperson.
The recovered weapons were later handed over to the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Amritsar for further investigation. Security agencies are now probing the possible links of this consignment with recent smuggling attempts and terror modules busted in the border districts.
