Bus conductor assaults female passenger, Punjab State Women's Commission orders swift action
In a shocking incident that has drawn widespread condemnation, the Punjab State Women's Commission has ordered Moga police to take immediate legal action and arrest a bus conductor who was caught on video brutally assaulting a female passenger.
A case has been registered against the accused, Amandeep Singh, under relevant sections of the BNS.
The directive from the commission comes a week after the incident, which has been widely shared on social media, prompting outrage.
The victim, 35-year-old Manpreet Kaur, alleges she was beaten and pushed off a bus by the conductor on September 2 following a dispute over her drop-off location. The assault, which took place near the Boogipura bypass, was recorded by a bystander, and the viral footage brought the incident to the attention of authorities.
"We have launched a manhunt to nab the accused," stated Police Inspector Varun Kumar of Thana City One. "Based on the victim's complaint and the video evidence, we are conducting raids to apprehend Amandeep Singh, who has been on the run since the incident."
