Bus falls into drain in Punjab's Faridkot; 6 dead, several injured
At least six persons were killed and several others sustained serious injuries after a private bus fell into a drain in Punjab's Faridkot district on Tuesday morning, officials said.
The private passenger bus skidded off the road and plunged into a drain following a collision with a goods-laden truck on the Kotkapura-Faridkot road.
The injured passengers were rushed to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital in Faridkot for treatment.
Officials confirmed that the ill-fated bus belonged to New Deep Bus Service, a transport company owned by AAP MLA from Gidderbaha, Dimpy Dhillon.
According to initial reports, the bus was overspeeding at the time of the accident.
Eyewitnesses claimed the driver lost control over the vehicle after the collision, and as a result of which, it fell from a bridge into the drain.
A rescue operation was underway. Efforts were being made to extract the bus out of the drain.
Senior officials of the district administration and police reached the spot to take stock of the situation.
