Campaign launched to prevent fog-related accidents in Phagwara
In a proactive move to reduce road accidents during the foggy season, the Phagwara traffic police, led by Inspector Aman Kumar, has ramped up its road safety awareness campaign as part of the ongoing road safety month.
The initiative, supported by Senior Superintendent of Police Kapurthala Gaurav Toora, SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti, and DSP Bharat Bhushan, aims to educate drivers and the public about the importance of following traffic rules, particularly in challenging weather conditions that reduce visibility and increase accident risk.
Speaking to the public, SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti stressed the urgent need for road safety during winter months. Inspector Aman Kumar outlined essential safety tips, urging drivers to obey speed limits, use low beam lights during fog, avoid pressure horns, and reduce vehicle speed. He also recommended that drivers never stop in the middle of the road, always use indicators, and avoid loud music to stay alert to surrounding traffic.
The campaign further focused on ensuring vehicles are equipped with safety tools such as reflectors and high-security number plates. Drivers were also reminded to wear seat belts and helmets, park responsibly with handbrakes engaged, and avoid distractions like mobile phones while driving vehicles.
Additionally, the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol or when drowsy were highlighted.
In a practical demonstration, the traffic police team, including ASIs Kulwinder Singh, Amarjit Singh, Sohan Singh, Parminder Singh, Ram Murti, and Avtar Singh, installed reflectors on several vehicles to improve visibility during foggy conditions.
The team encouraged drivers to install reflectors both at the front and rear of their vehicles.
Inspector Aman Kumar also issued a special appeal to parents, urging them to discourage underage driving, which he cited as a significant safety hazard. “Phagwara traffic police is committed to your safety,” he said, encouraging drivers to cooperate with law enforcement and follow all safety guidelines.
This campaign plays a vital role in reducing accidents and ensuring public safety during the foggy season, setting a positive example for other districts to follow.
