The Surrey Royal Canadian Mounted Police said in a press release that at 9.26 am, they responded to a report of firing and located a man suffering from gunshot wounds. The injured succumbed to his injuries on the spot, they said. In his seventies, Malik was the head of Khalsa schools across Canada. Investigators believe it was a targeted crime.

Earlier this year, Malik had heaped praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his “commendable gesture” towards the Sikh community.
