Bathinda, February 1
Expressing resentment over cases registered against farm leaders and demanding action against the miscreants who attacked peaceful protesters at Singhu, members of various Sikh organisations took out a protest march in Bathinda on Monday.
Dal Khalsa, SAD (A), Punjabi Maa Boli Satkar Sabha, Sikh Students’ Federation (malwa zone), social service organisations (NGOs) and members of the legal fraternity participated in the march. The protest march started from Qila Mubarak and after passing through various parts of the city ended near the bus stand.
Leaders of Sikh organisations, namely Hardeep Singh Mehraj, Gurvinder Singh, Parminder Singh Ballianwali, said, “The Delhi Police must cancel cases registered against farm leaders and also release the farmers arrested after the Republic Day violence. We also condemn the arrest of journalist Mandeep Punia. It’s nothing but a knee-jerk reaction from the government and an attack on the freedom of press.”
“The violence perpetrated on peacefully protesting farmers that too in the presence of the police is reprehensible. We demand that the Delhi Police take strict action against those who are trying to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere at the protest sites. If the government does not take the required steps in the interests of the farmers’ stir then there will be wider ramifications in Punjab in the longer run,” they added.
