Cases up, varsity holds test to hire nurses
Faridkot, May 23
Amid rising number of Covid-19 cases and limited resources and staff at three government medical colleges in the state, the Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) today conducted a written recruitment test to hire 503 staff nurses. As many as 67 Covid-positive candidates also appeared in this offline recruitment test.
Strictly following the protocols to ensure social distancing among 15,708 candidates who appeared in the test, the BFUHS established 103 centres across the state, including 16 centres exclusively meant for the positive candidates.
BFUHS Vice-Chancellor Dr Raj Bahadur said: “When most of the exams across the country are being deferred amid pandemic, conducting a test to recruit staff nurses was a major challenge.” He said given the extraordinary demand of medical and paramedical talent during the current crisis, they grappled with the challenge of responding quickly to the needs of people while also ensuring that the protocols were followed.
As many as 1,495 invigilators were deputed at 103 exam centres, which were established in the district-level civil hospitals and in five medical colleges in the state. As many as 17,327 candidates had applied for these 503 posts and 15,708 appeared to take the test.
Keeping in view the rising cases, it was mandatory for all aspirants to bring along RAT (Rapid Antigen Test) report.
This month, the BFUHS also conducted a test for the recruitment of 250 medical officers in the health department. Besides, the BFUHS has started the process to recruit staff in other departments, including anesthesia, ECG, dialysis, cardiac, audiometry, radiotherapy, CSSD, MGPS, gas plant, physiotherapy, speech therapy and radiography.
