Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday accused the Centre of discriminating against the state by appointing officers against Punjab’s quota from other states in the Bhakra-Beas Management Board (BBMB). He said such “high-handedness” won’t be tolerated and reiterated the demand for the reconstitution of the board.

Interacting with mediapersons on the sidelines of a function to honour top performing students of the state, the Chief Minister said these discriminatory decisions were “totally unwarranted and undesirable”.

He said despite contributing 60 per cent to the board budget, against the 40 per cent share put together by Rajasthan and Haryana, the neighbouring states had equal say in the BBMB matters.

He said the value of the states’ vote should be in accordance with the funds contributed by them.

He again reiterated that Punjab had no surplus water to share with any state and any decision harming the state’s won’t be acceptable.
