The central government has decided to hold all programmes dedicated to the 400th birth anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur, including raising of memorials, as per the SGPC’s suggestions.
This was conveyed by Govind Mohan, Secretary, Cultural Department, while holding a meeting with Sikh scholars and SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur on Thursday. Scholars Simarjit Singh Kang, Dr Inderpal Singh, Amarjit Singh, Dr Sukhbir Singh and Dr Jogeshwar Singh were present during the meeting besides an SDM-level official.
Mohan apprised the SGPC president of the plans drawn up by the government for the 400th Parkash Purab. He categorically announced that the government decided to hold all programmes dedicated to the historic Gurpurb to be done as per the suggestions of the SGPC.
The SGPC president assured the central government delegation of full support during all events. She announced a committee would be set up soon to take up the matter with the government. She said the life and ideology of the Sikh Guru was for world peace and protection of human rights. Therefore, the objective of the events should be world peace and protection of human rights. Later, she felicitated all visiting officials.
