Centre okays Heritage Street at Khatkar Kalan
The Centre has approved two significant projects in Punjab aimed at honouring the sacrifices of martyrs Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev at Khatkar Kalan and Hussainiwala. This was announced in a statement by Ravneet Singh, Union Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries.
Expressing gratitude to PM Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Shekhawat for their support for the project, he said the two projects, titled “Cultural and Heritage Stretch, A Symbol of Peace and Harmony at Hussainiwala Border” and “Heritage Street as a Tribute to Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh at Khatkar Kalan, SBS Nagar,” are designed as fitting tribute to the martyrs.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Government of India, has recognised Ferozepur (Hussainiwala border) as a key destination for development under the “culture and heritage” category.
Following collaboration with the state government, the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee has approved the “Cultural and Heritage Stretch, A Symbol of Peace and Harmony at Hussainiwala Border” project with an investment of Rs 24.99 crore. The initiative aims to preserve the historical and cultural legacy of the area, commemorating the sacrifices of freedom fighters like Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Shaheed Rajguru, and Shaheed Sukhdev.
Ravneet Bittu further elaborated on the “Heritage Street” project at Khatkar Kalan as a tribute to Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh. As part of the Government of India’s initiative to develop iconic tourist centres on global scale, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism has approved a budget of Rs 53.45 crore for the project.
