40,000-page chargesheet filed against SAD leader Bikram Majithia in Prevention of Corruption Act case

The prosecution counsel said it is around 40,000 pages long and has cited over 200 witnesses in the case

The Vigilance Bureau today filed a chargesheet against SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia in a Prevention of Corruption Act case in the Mohali court.

The prosecution counsel said it is around 40,000 pages long and has cited over 200 witnesses in the case. The documents were brought to the Mohali court in four sealed trunks, loaded in a pick-up truck today afternoon around 3.30pm.

Majithia's bail application was dismissed by a Mohali court recently. He is in judicial custody lodged at New Nabha jail near Patiala.

The Vigilance Bureau arrested Majithia from his Amritsar house on June 25.

During the hearing in the bail application, both the Vigilance Bureau and accused Majithia were relying on the documents of companies (Saraya Industries Limited) and those submitted to the Income Tax Department.

While the prosecution claims it to be the “ill-gotten money” during Majithia reign as public servant (Cabinet Minister till January 2009), Majithia’s counsel argued it to be either loans or business transactions inter se the companies.
