Harpal Cheema: Congress, SAD shielded accused in sacrilege cases
Chandigarh, July 7
Blaming the previous governments for “shielding accused in sacrilege cases by withholding proofs” against them, Finance Minister Harpal Cheema on Thursday alleged that the Congress and SAD never wanted to deliver justice to the people of Punjab.
“The sacrilege case in Moga’s Malke village was reported in 2015 during the SAD government’s tenure. Even the Congress formed the government on the promise of delivering justice in the case. However, they did nothing during their regimes. It is only the AAP government led by CM Bhagwant Mann that ensured that the accused get a deserving punishment,” Cheema said, while addressing a press conference here.
He alleged that earlier, the investigation was shoddy due to the vested interests of the Congress and Akali Dal leaders. He said the previous governments never pursued sacrilege cases properly and did not submit all evidence in courts.
Cheema alleged that the Congress and Akali Dal were in cahoots and had been covering up each other’s crimes for decades. But the AAP government broke this nexus and now the accused will get exemplary punishments for their crimes.
