Senior functionaries of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) have initiated the process to re-employ retired technical staff to expedite the work on the resumption of power supply to deal with frequent outages during the monsoon season.
However, the management’s decision has been opposed by office-bearers of various employee unions. They have suggested that the corporation should rather hire new recruits.
In a communiqué sent by the Chief Engineer, PSPCL, Ludhiana (Central Zone), to the corporation’s offices in the region, the personnel concerned had been directed to take consent from retired linemen and assistant linemen, who were below 62 years of age till December 31, 2024, regarding their re-employment.
The corporation has also sought details of the retired technical employees, along with their consent letters. Though the entitled employees are yet to be informed about the offer made by the PSPCL, in-charges of various subdivisions were asked to submit the details by July 24.
Power Board Retired Employees Union president Sukhcharanjit Sharma said instead of mending their earlier defective policies, the management was exploiting the rights of the permanent employees and consumers.
