The backlog of registration certificates (RCs) and driving licences (DLs) pending for printing has touched over four lakh. The intervention of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has been sought to address the grievances of applicants.

Dr Kamal Singh Soi, member, National Road Safety Council, stated this while addressing a press conference here.

He said the state Transport Department was in total disarray. Applications as old as four months were pending with the department as it had failed to get the smart card printed after the exit of the vendor, Smart Chip Pvt Ltd.

Near 8,000 to 10,000 RCs and DLs are issued every day across the state.

A senior functionary of the department said though efforts were being made to clear the backlog in the next 15 days, the department would be printing smart cards in-house for the time being.
