Chandigarh, December 17

Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Tuesday approved amendment to the Roopnagar master plan to facilitate development of an industrial zone along the Roopnagar-Chandigarh road. He also approved an amendment to Kapurthala development plan.

Chairing a meeting of the Punjab Regional and Town Planning Development Board, of which he is chairman, Capt Amarinder Singh gave the go-ahead for issuing a public notice for inviting objections and suggestions from the general public in this regard. The approval has paved the way for the development of an industrial zone comprising Ban Majra, Mugal Majri, Bhago Majra, Chatoli, Mathrari, Adhrera and Chargeri villages.

Earlier, in a presentation on the proposed industrial zone near Roopnagar, Director Town and Country Planning Kavita Mohan Singh apprised the members of the Board that several industrial units already existed in this region and were facing issues in further expansion. The meeting decided to give the go-ahead for industrial zone in the master plan of Banur to enable overall development of industry in the region due to its close proximity to the International Airport, Mohali.

Capt Amarinder also gave approval to amend the Kapurthala master plan for the development of a residential zone to accommodate the existing residential colonies opposite the Rail Coach Factory. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister constituted a committee comprising Principal Secretary, Housing, Principal Secretary, Local Government, CEO, Invest Punjab and Director, Town and Country Planning, to look into the issues related to density and floor area ratio after studying the existing models being followed by Maharashtra and Karnataka to ensure holistic growth of real estate sector.
