Amid the pending Cabinet expansion, Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has been called by the Congress party high command to Delhi.

He is scheduled to fly from Amritsar airport for Delhi.

Earlier, joined by former PCC chief Sunil Jakhar at the Chandigarh airport, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra left for Delhi on Wednesday evening — a significant development in the wake of the impending Cabinet expansion of the Charanjit Singh Channi-led government.

Jakhar may be placated with an important position in the party after he declined to accept the position of Deputy CM, say sources.

He was reportedly asked to accompany the Gandhis to Delhi. Interestingly, none of the party leaders from Punjab were at the airport. Jakhar is likely to attend a crucial meeting with the Gandhis on Thursday. Meanwhile, the chief minister met Brahm Mohindra.
