CM Mann inaugurates World Skill Campus of Excellence in Ludhiana
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday inaugurated the World Skill Campus of Excellence to train the youth in fields including artificial intelligence and aviation. Spread over 20 acres, the campus comprises a renovated Industrial Training Institute (ITI) and a multi-skill development centre (MSDC).
The initiative aims at facilitating job placements for over 3,000 students annually. Mann lauded the contribution of Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Sahney, who adopted the project and contributed over Rs 5 crore from his MPLAD fund to upgrade the ITI.
Education Minister Harjot Bains said Ludhiana had got the best ITI in the state. He said earlier only 50-60 per cent of the seats were being filled in ITIs across Punjab.
"Due to efforts of the Aam Aadmi Party government, the state has achieved 97 per cent admission rate", he claimed. The MSDC will provide free of charge skill courses to the youth in disciplines like artificial intelligence, aviation, hospitality and tourism, agriculture, fashion designing, beauty and wellness, and nursing.
Students faint waiting for CM
Several schoolchildren fainted while waiting for the CM to arrive at the venue in hot weather conditions. Instead of going to their schools, children were called to attend the function at 10 am and made to stand under the scorching sun for over four hours till he arrived around 2 pm, resulting dehydration and sunstroke to many.
