Punjab CM: Opposition creating unnecessary panic over land pooling policy
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday said no piece of land would be acquired forcibly and accused the Opposition of creating “unnecessary panic” over his government’s recently unveiled land pooling policy.
CM Mann said it was up to landowners if they wanted to be part of the initiative.
“Those who do not wish to give their land can continue using it for farming or other purposes,” he said, speaking during his government’s “AAP Sarkar, Aapke Dwar” programme in Patiala.
He said for every acre contributed, landowners would receive a residential plot of 1,000 sq yards in developed urban areas and a commercial space of 200 sq yards.
“These plots and spaces, once developed, will have significantly higher market value,” he added.
“For instance, if your land is worth Rs 1 crore per acre today, the developed property would be worth Rs 3-4 crore. You can keep the property, rent it for consistent income, or sell it at your discretion,” he added.
He said no piece of land would be acquired “without the consent” of the landowners. On the issue of unapproved colonies in Punjab, he said the government was determined to regulate and redevelop these settlements.
