Punjab CM vows action against those responsible for farmer’s death

Chandigarh, February 21

Moved by the death of Shubhkaran Singh at the Khanauri border during farmers’ attempted Delhi march today, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann today ordered the deployment of all ambulances and Sadak Suraksha Force (SSF) vehicles on the borders where farmers are assembled and attempting to move towards the national capital.

He said two ministers and one MLA, all medical experts, will be stationed on the borders to look after the health emergencies.

Chamkaur Sahib MLA Dr Charanjit Channi has been given the charge of Rajpura Government Hospital, Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh, who is an eye specialist, will take care of Government Hospital, Patiala. Cabinet Minister Dr Baljit Kaur, also an eye specialist, will take care of farmers on Patran and Khanauri borders.

CM Mann announced that exemplary punishment would be given to the officers responsible for death of the youth.

On the rumours of imposition of President’s rule in the state, the Chief Minister said he could kick this chair for the sake of people 100 times.

“I cannot bring Shubhkaran back to life, however, I assure the family that I stand by them. He has two sisters and I will take care of both,” he said.

Mann said, “I am acting as a bridge. Accepting farmers’ demands is the prerogative of the Centre. I tried my best to get the issue resolved.” “Can’t Punjabis raise their genuine demands with the Centre? Top it all why were they stopped in Haryana? We have no issues with Haryana at all. If they were stopped, they would have gone to Delhi, sought a place to sit and continue their protest,” he said.

“Nothing has happened since January 22, 2021. This was the last meeting with farmers. What was the Modi government doing for three years. Only trading MLAs to break governments which were not from their party. If the party (BJP) had talked to farmers during these three years, this day would not have happened,” Mann said.

Dallewal hospitalised

Late evening, Jagjit Singh Dallewal was admitted to Rajindra Hospital after he complained of uneasiness in breathing and itching in eyes
