College of Community Science hosts welcome function for freshmen

The Home Science Association (HSA) of the College of Community Science (COCS) at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) hosted a freshmen’s party to welcome the fresh entrants into various programmes of the college.

The college witnessed appreciable admission this academic year into courses such as BSc (Hons) Community Science, BSc (Hons) Nutrition and Dietetics, BSc (Fashion Designing), certificate courses in ‘Early Childhood Care and Education’ and ‘Interior Design and Decoration’.

The HSA advisors, Dr Shivani Rana and Dr Prachi Bisht, accorded a floral welcome to the chief guest of the event, Dr Kiran Bains, the Dean of the College of Community Science.

In her welcome address to the freshmen, Dr Bains congratulated the students who had secured admission to the college by the dint of their hard work. She also encouraged the students to follow the three mantras of discipline, respect and integrity in their lives to be successful.

The event included a range of performances by the students of the senior batches. A modelling contest was the highlight of the function and saw the freshmen’ dressed in their best attire, decked up beautifully to walk the ramp and create a unique style statement. Nandita Jamwal was adjudged as Ms. Fresher, Jobanpreet Kaur clinched the title of the first runner-up, and Jaspreet Kaur walked away with the title of the second runner-up. Simrandeep Singh won the title of Mr. Fresher.

The heads of various departments of the college, faculty along with new and old students of the college were in attendance at the function.

Dr Bains said the event acted as a ‘breaking-the-ice’ occasion, wherein students got the opportunity to interact with the faculty as well as students of senior batches in an informal environment.
