Colleges gear up for events under National Edu Policy

With the University Grants Commission starting the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, colleges have been asked to appoint three ambassadors each and set up help desks.

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya is among the first few colleges to be enlisted for the NEP SAARTHI (Student Ambassador for Academic Reforms in Transforming Higher Education in India) project. The college will organise various activities to promote the objectives of the NEP-2020.

Under the initiative, the SAARTHI committee of the KMV has set up an NEP-2020 help desk on the campus. The event is aimed at creating awareness and encouraging students to delve deep into the transformational reforms proposed under the NEP-2020.

Principal Prof Atima Sharma Dwivedi said, “The UGC wants the project to get going right away. For this, the college has appointed SAARTHI ambassadors Sanya, Anushka and Simran. The team has been organising essay competitions on what the students think about the advantages of NEP and how they intend to spread awareness on the issue. On our part, we have made these students part of the decision-making process of the institution. They shall also be touring to schools, their own villages and localities and spreading awareness on the new changes in the higher education among the youth.”

Handbills were distributed to the students, reflecting the features of the NEP-2020. The students showcased their understanding of the NEP-2020, highlighting key aspects such as holistic and multidisciplinary education, emphasis on critical thinking, introduction of mother tongue as a medium of instruction and integration of vocational education.

The slogans reflected the students’ insightful interpretations of how the NEP-2020 envisions a learner-centric, flexible and inclusive education system with multiple entry and exit provisions. The event instilled a deeper understanding of the NEP-2020 among students and emphasised the importance of active student participation in shaping the future of education.

Principal Prof Dwivedi lauded the contribution of the students. “We are expecting a good number of activities and projects for our students in the forthcoming summer break too as a part of the NEP SAARTHI project,” she said.
