The dilapidated condition of roads in villages surrounding Patiala have again taken centre stage and led to a formation of the ‘Road Sangharsh Committee’. It is pressing the government for the reconstruction of the severely damaged road connecting dozens of villages to the Patiala-Patran main road.

The committee members, consisting of government schoolteachers who negotiate these stretches each day, submitted a protest letter to the CM, Patiala Deputy Commissioner Preeti Yadav and other ministers, highlighting the plight of residents who have been commuting through these roads for years.

Committee members emphasised that the Ghagga-Brahmanmajra road has become worse than a dirt path, causing inconvenience to the local population. Despite assurances from Patiala SDM to address the issue last month, no concrete steps have been taken to repair the road.

The committee members criticised both the Central and Punjab Government for neglecting the needs of rural communities. They highlighted that while substantial funds are being allocated for irrelevant projects, the basic infrastructure requirements of villages are being overlooked.

The committee plans to further escalate their protest by mobilising residents if the road continues to remain in a dilapidated condition.
