Condolences pour in for academician

The President and the trustees of the Tribune Trust offered their condolences on the demise of Prof Surjit Hans, a leading academician.
Punjab Social Security and Women and Child Development Minister Aruna Chaudhary, Education and PWD Minister Vijay Inder Singla and Food and Civil Supply and Consumer Affairs Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu have expressed their condolences on the demise of Punjabi writer, scholar and historian Prof Hans, who breathed his last early morning today.
An obituary reference to Hans was also made in the Vidhan Sabha today, after Parliamentary Affairs Minister Brahm Mohindra asked for his name to be included.
Sukhbir Singh Badal, SAD president, condoled the demise of Prof Hans, who, he said, did yeoman service to the cause of maa boli by translating the complete works of Shakespeare into Punjabi.
In a condolence message to the bereaved family, including prominent journalist Nanki Hans, the SAD president said Prof Hans’ contribution to his mother tongue would always be remembered.
He said the Punjab Sahit Akademi and the Chandigarh Sahitya Academy awardee had not only authored more than 60 books, including the much acclaimed “Mitti di Dheri”, but was also known for his scientific temperament.
