Cong demands Shah’s apology over remarks on BR Ambedkar
Fatehgarh Sahib MP Dr. Amar Singh Boparai led Congress activists in demanding an unconditional apology from Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his controversial remarks about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of India’s Constitution. Addressing party workers, Boparai condemned Shah’s comments made during the recent Winter Session of Parliament, calling them “disgraceful” and “shameful.”
The Congress MP asserted that the Home Minister’s remarks were an affront to the esteem of Ambedkar, an iconic figure whose legacy is integral to India’s constitutional framework.
To seek justice, Boparai announced plans for Congress to formally petition President Droupadi Murmu, urging her intervention for Shah’s resignation. Delegations led by senior party leaders will submit memoranda to Deputy Commissioners and SDMs at the district and subdivision levels on Tuesday.
Boparai expressed disappointment that PM Narendra Modi had defended Shah’s comments, dismissing parliamentary protocols in the process.
