Cong slams AAP govt over drugs
Congress leadership on Sunday blamed the state government for not doing enough to check the drugs menace that claimed around 40 lives every month while many cases went unreported.
Addressing a rally on “Naukari Devo, Nasha Nahi” here, Punjab Pardesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring hailed Punjab Youth Congress president Mohit Mohindra for taking initiative against drugs and unemployment in the state.
“Deaths of over 1,000 youths every year due to drugs was an alarming situation and the Bhagwant Mann government has failed to control the drug mafia,” he said. Underlining the role of the Youth Congress in state politics, he said at least 60 seats should be allotted to the youth in the 2027 Assembly elections.
He said he felt sorry that former CM Capt Amarinder Singh “failed the Congress in taking action against drug lords”. The party would prepare a road map to end drug menace in the state, he added.
Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa said Arvind Kejriwal was preparing ground to grab the Rajya Sabha seat from Punjab. “The people of Punjab will not tolerate Kejriwal ruling the state without any mandate,” he said.
“Bhagwant Mann had promised reverse migration of the youth from abroad. In reality, in their attempt to run away from Punjab, they were falling prey to immigration agents. Youngsters deported from the USA recently have exposed lies of the AAP government,” he said.
Earlier Punjab Youth Congress president Mohit Mohindra welcomed the state Congress leaders and said communal forces were raising head in Punjab while the BJP was trying to divide the society. Many other senior party leaders also spoke on the occasion.
