Chandigarh, June 23

In a meeting chaired by its leader Partap Singh Bajwa, the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) today decided to take CM Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government head on over the law and order situation during the Budget session beginning tomorrow.

Extend session, speaker urged

  • CLP leader Partap Singh Bajwa on Thursday met Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan seeking extension of the Budget session that begins Firday and ends on June 30
  • In his representation, Bajwa said a short session would curtail MLAs’ opportunity to hold detailed discussions on Governor’s Address, Budget proposals and other important issues

Supply copies of Bills in advance

  • The Congress said providing in advance copies of the Bills to be presented on the floor of the House would enable the members to prepare well for the discussion

The Congress is expected to bring an adjournment motion on the deteriorating law and order situation. The Opposition benches led by the CLP leader would try to nail the government on ransom calls being made by gangsters to people from all walks of life.

“When the life and property of the citizens is not secure, the AAP has no right to run the government,” said Bajwa, adding not only former Deputy CM OP Soni, MP Gurpreet Singh Aujla, former MLA Harpartap Aujla and several others were getting calls for ransom. Many were silently paying the ransom for fear of their life.

Earlier, PCC president Amarinder Raja Warring during a press conference said the gangsters were not sparing anyone. Punjab Congress leaders today lashed out at the AAP government for the “complete collapse” of law and order in the state. The role of Punjab Police in failing to nab the culprits responsible for the killing of Sidhu Moosewala is under question. If the Chief Minister is threatened, who can be safe in Punjab?” asked the PCC chief.
