Congress backs bus staff stir, says public transport hijacked

Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Friday expressed his party’s solidarity with the protesting staff of the Punjab Roadways.

“The AAP government was following into the footsteps of the SAD government that had hijacked the public transport system for the personal benefit of its leaders,” he said.

He condemned the police lathicharge on the roadways staff.

The state Congress chief president also condemned the manhandling of some journalists in Sangrur.

He expressed shock over the government reaction towards the demands of the roadways staff.

He said the staff had a genuine and justified apprehension that the state government was gradually moving towards privatisation of the Punjab Roadways by outsourcing buses from private operators.
