Following a report in The Tribune, the Opposition on Monday cornered the Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party Government over the alleged panchayat land-grabbing by Lovely Professional University (LPU), Phagwara.

The university is owned by AAP Rajya Sabha member Ashok Mittal.

In a tweet, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring questioned Chief Minister Mann and Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats Kuldeep Dhaliwal.

“Have a look at it, please. @BhagwantMannSahab, is your anti-encroachment drive only meant for ordinary people or your political opponents? Hope minister Dhaliwal Sahab applies the same yardstick here as well. Caeser’s wife must be above suspicion,” he said.

Earlier, MLA from Bholath and Congress farmers’ wing leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira had also put the state government in dock.

In a series of tweets, he claimed that he had been told that “the sarpanch of Hardaspura village in Phagwara is being pressured by @AamAadmiParty Mp Ashok Mittal not to file a case in the court of DDPO! Is the drive of dispossession of Panchayat land of @BhagwantMann only limited to his political opponents like @SimranjitSADA & others?”
