Congress protests against poor law and order in state
Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee and MP from Ludhiana, led a state-wide protest organised by the Punjab Congress to raise a voice against the worsening law and order situation in Punjab.
The PPCC chief took part in a protest at Jandiala Guru, Amritsar district, where a large number of residents, outraged by the increasing tyranny of gangsters and criminals, gathered outside the office of the Deputy Superintendent of Police to demand action.
Protesters raised slogans condemning the AAP government’s failure to address the rampant rise in crime across the state. Speaking to those in attendance, Warring said, “Numerous incidents of law and order collapsing is being reported daily across Punjab. The state is witnessing an alarming rise in crime with 3-4 murders happening every week.”
He said in August, Punjab recorded 20 murders. Punjabis no longer feel safe, not even in their own homes.
Warring highlighted the role of international criminal syndicates in Punjab’s deteriorating situation. “Gangsters like Landa Harrike, operating from Canada, are causing trouble in Punjab, adding to the state’s lawlessness. Industries are now leaving Punjab and moving to Uttar Pradesh due to the problems caused by this escalating crime. Businesses no longer want to invest here. The youth of Punjab, disillusioned with their future prospects, are either moving abroad or falling into the traps of drugs or gangs.”
Malerkotla: Activists of the Congress and allied outfits organised dharnas and rallies in front of subdivision-level police offices to protest the alleged poor law and order situation in the state.
Congress block president Deepak Sharma said office-bearers and activists of various units led by district president Jaspal Dass had organised dharnas in front of the three offices of DSPs in the district.
Former MLA Jasvir Singh Jassi Khangura, Prabhdeep Singh Narangwal, Vikas Tandon, Jarnail Singh, Rakesh Shahi, Gurjot Dhindsa, Amar Singh (office bearers of different wings of Congress) and Indian National Trade Union Congress president Parmeshawar Pal led protesters at various places.
Abohar: Congress workers today staged a dharna outside the offices of Deputy Superintendents of Police of Balluana and Abohar areas and raised slogans against the state government.
Khuian Sarwar block president Harpreet Singh said that the law and order situation had been deteriorating for the past few months and the fear of police and law has vanished from the hearts of the anti-social elements. This has increased incidents of theft and loot. Tall claims of combating drug smuggling had fallen flat, he said.
