Cops conduct search ops at railway stations

Aiming for fool-proof security arrangements ahead of Republic Day, the police on Thursday conducted a special cordon and search operation at and around all railway stations in the state.

The operation was conducted on the directions of Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav from 1 pm to 3 pm simultaneously in all 28 police districts. Police teams checked people arriving and departing at railway stations during the operation. Sniffer dogs had also been deployed.

Special Director General of Police (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla, who monitored the state-level operation, said all CPs/SSPs were asked to deploy at least two police teams per railway station under the supervision of a senior officer to carry out the operation. Police personnel were strictly advised to deal with every person in a friendly and polite manner during the operation, he said.

He said around 250 police parties, involving over 2,300 personnel, were deputed across the state.

As many as 3,299 persons were checked during the operation conducted at 169 railway stations in the state, he said, adding that 173 suspicious persons were detained for questioning.

Apart from this, police teams were also asked to carry out checking of all stationed vehicles around the railway stations by using the Vahan app, said the Special DGP, adding that teams checked 2,593 vehicles. As many as 246 traffic challans were issued and 18 vehicles were impounded, he said.
