Cops nab gangster in cross-border smuggling case
The counter intelligence wing of the police has busted a cross-border smuggling network and arrested a gangster, Hardeep Singh, alias Deepa, of Ghall Khurd village here. Officials seized three sophisticated weapons — a 9 mm Glock pistol, a .30 mm Beretta pistol and a pump action gun — along with three magazines and 141 assorted cartridges, 45 gm heroin from him. They also impounded his car.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said the preliminary investigations revealed that these weapons were sourced from Pakistan through unidentified foreign-based entity, intended for use in terror and criminal activities in the state. He said the accused had intended to supply these weapons to ground operatives of terror and criminal groups.
Efforts were on to identify other members involved in the module and track the origins of the smuggled weapons.
Ferozepur AIG (CI) Lakhbir Singh said police teams had received a reliable intel-input about involvement of Hardeep Deepa in weapon and drug smuggling operations.
