Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Gagan Ajit Singh, has urged local residents to report the theft of snatching of mobile phones and electronic gadgets as soon as possible. Addressing mediapersons, the SSP stressed prompt reporting is key to helping the police trace offenders and recover stolen items.

“We urge those who have lost mobile phones or gadgets to immediately inform the nearest police station or the cybercrime cell. The interrogation of arrested suspects often leads to the resolution of other related cases,” Singh said.

To highlight the ongoing efforts, the police recently organised an event where 31 stolen mobile phones, worth Rs 4.65 lakh, were returned to their rightful owners. These phones had been recovered by a team led by Manpreet Singh, the in-charge of the cyber cell, using the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR). So far, the police have traced a total of 106 stolen mobiles worth Rs 16 lakh.

The SSP praised the cybercrime team for their dedication in recovering the stolen devices, which involved examining CCTV footage from various localities and gathering information from complainants.

During the event, the SSP urged the public to be cautious when carrying expensive gadgets and to report any theft or snatching incidents to the authorities without delay. “Any delay in reporting a theft makes it difficult for the police to take action and the offenders may escape,” he said.

The police have been leveraging digital tools available through the cybercrime cell to identify and apprehend snatchers and thieves, ensuring each case is thoroughly investigated. The SSP’s message was clear: quick action can significantly increase the chances of recovery and successful prosecution.
