Court issues notice to Punjab's Panchayat Minister

A Kharar court has issued a notice to Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Kuldeep Dhaliwal in response to a petition filed by former AAP spokesperson Captain Bikramjit Singh regarding the “illegal” possession of 29 acres in Abhipur village of the district’s Majri block.

Land encroachment

• Former AAP spokesperson Captain Bikramjit Singh had allegedly encroached upon 29 acres at Abhipur village in Mohali district
• On April 28, Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Kuldeep Dhaliwal had got the land cleared of encroachment

Dhaliwal has been asked to appear before the court with all relevant documents in support of his claims on July 25.

On April 28, Dhaliwal had executed the warrant of possession of the land and alleged the land was “encroached upon by one Captain Bikramjit Singh (retired) since 2007”.

The Abhipur gram panchayat had filed a case of encroachment in the court of collector in 2007. On September 18, 2014, the case was decided in its favour and the warrant of possession was issued, but rural department officials failed to get the land vacated.

Captain Singh, on the other hand, had said the case was still pending with the Director, Rural Development, and the action was motivated by political vendetta. He had unsuccessfully contested the 2017 elections on the AAP ticket from Khemkaran.
