Bathinda: With city residents showing utter disregard for Covid-appropriate behaviour, Covid has started spreading its tentacles in the district again. As per the Health Department, 50 fresh cases (39 active) have been reported in the district in past three weeks alone. The cases have increased sharply with over 27 cases being reported in the past three days alone. TNS

Three die in accidents

Abohar: At least three persons died in separate accidents in neighbouring Sriganganagar and Hanumangarh, said police sources. A college student died when a private bus in which he was travelling overturned. About two dozen passengers were injured. Two youths were killed and one was seriously injured in three mishaps due to stray animals. OC

Stir over bid to centralise PU

Sangrur: Members of nine outfits under the banner of Panjab University (PU) Bachao Morcha protested here to oppose the Centre's move to convert the PU into a central university. “We will intensify our stir if the Centre fails to withdraw its proposal,” said Rashpinder Jimmy of PRSU.TNS

Man dies by ‘suicide’

Muktsar: Having doubts over his wife’s character, Ranjit Ram allegedly ended his life by consuming some poisonous substance at Husnar village here. He was admitted to a hospital in Faridkot on Friday, where he passed away on Sunday.
