Chandigarh, February 6

After the Republic Day violence, some of the leaders who had drawn line against those who had allegedly attempted to “sabotage” the ongoing farmers’ movement are reportedly getting threats calls from foreign numbers.

Those who mainly came under attack include Bharti Kisan Union (Rajewal)’s Balbir Singh Rajewal and Kirti Kisan Union’s Rajinder Singh Deep Singh Wala. Incidentally, both the leaders had strongly condemned the incident of hoisting of a flag at the Red Fort in their speeches and also criticised the alleged planners of Republic Day kisan parade sabotage.

Rajewal had even given a call for social boycott of those who planned the march to Red Fort. Those who came under criticism of farmer leaders were gangster-turned-social worker Lakha Sidhana and Deep Sidhu.

The threats are mainly coming from foreign or ‘private’ numbers. Rajinder Singh Deep Singh Wala said 10 days had passed but he was consistently getting calls hurling abuses to threats of physical harm. He said he was being targeted for exposing the people behind the ‘sabotage’ attempt.

“Over the years, I have become habitual of all these tricks, so I avoid engaging with them. But this time, even my wife who is also part of this agitation is being threatened over phone and Facebook messages,” he said.

A new trend, which has been witnessed over the last four days, was a large number of videos specifically targeting Rajinder Singh and Rajewal shared by individuals who are known sympathisers of Khalistan movement. They are flaying the Left activists for hijacking the ongoing movement.
