Crop on 500 acres inundated in Fazilka villages

The standing crop on over 500 acres was submerged in rainwater in several villages here.

Subhash Singh, sarpanch of Retewali Bhaini village, said the moong crop on about 150 acres and paddy on about 100 acres has been submerged.

Boota Singh, a former sarpanch of low-lying Dhani Sadda Singh village, said moong crop on 200 acres was submerged in water.

Villagers held overflowing Ladhuka drain responsible for the problem.

Harmesh Singh, Sarpanch of Ram Singh Bhaini village, said the Sutlej water had inundated 100 acres in the area. Villagers said the moong crop, which had ripened, was prone to damage if exposed to excess water.
