Cyclists to embark on 600km expedition on September 28
Azad Hind Peddlers Club (AHPC), Fazilka, is all set to embark on another challenging cycling expedition that begins on September 28. The club’s founder, Shashi Kant Gupta, said four of their members will be participating in the Super Randonneurs (SR) Series, which includes him and three other riders: Ram Kishan Kamboj, Arpit Setia and Simarjit Singh.
He explained that Audax India Randonneurs (AIR) is an all-India organisation of randonneurs, recognised by Audax Club Paris (ACP), which oversees all Brevet de Randonneurs Mondiaux and Audax events in India.
Simaljeet Singh, secretary of the club, said that AIR organises a Super Randonneurs Series, wherein cyclists are required to complete four rides in a year — 200km, 300km, 400km and 600km. Any cyclist who successfully completes these rides earns the title of super randonneur.
He said riders from Fazilka, Abohar, Malout, Lambi, Dabwali, Sirsa, Hisar, and other cities will participate in the 600km ride. Approximately 20 riders from Punjab and Haryana are expected to be part of the event. He said that since this ride was being conducted in Punjab and Haryana regions, Audax India has named it the ‘Punjab-Haryana friendship ride’.
Retired Naib Tehsildar Ram Kishan Kamboj said the club’s four members had successfully completed a 200km ride from Bathinda to Abohar via Mandi Dabwali and Seeto Gunno on November 19, 2023. The second 400km ride from Hisar to Abohar via Sirsa and Dabwali was completed on March 16, 2024. The third 300km ride from Hisar to Dabwali was completed on July 27, 2024.
Arpit Setia, a participant, said all the riders of AHPC are excited about this 600km ride, which will start from Abohar and go to Rohtak via Seeto Gunno, Dabwali, Sirsa and Hisar. All the riders will hopefully complete the ride within the stipulated time of 40 hours, said Rahul Gumber, a young member of the club.
