A day after a 16-year-old teenager died tragically as his two-wheeler collided with a stray bull, the administration on Friday resumed the drive to catch stray animals and put them in the state-owned Salemshah Gaushala near Fazilka.

Municipal Corporation’s Sanitary Inspectors Kartar Singh and Jaswinder Singh said that last month as well, about 50 animals were caught and sent to the cowshed and then due to the severe heat, the campaign was stopped midway. Today, when the weather had become pleasant after light showers, the campaign was re-launched to catch stray animals.

They said that Deputy Commissioner Senu Duggal had ordered a team in Fazilka to reach Abohar and catch the animals. Catching these stray bulls is very risky and quite experienced persons have been deployed to carry out the drive, they claimed. About 100 animals shall be caught from the crowded areas of the city and would be transported to Salemshah.

In the past few months, 763 stray animals were captured and transported to different gaushalas whereas, according to a survey there were around 1,300 animals in Abohar itself. Four people have died in collisions with animals this year while some have been injured.
