Sangrur DC pulls up officials over illegal buildings

Many persons have refurbished their shops to start new ventures on Deputy Commissioner (DC) office road, a prime residential area of the city, but the Nagar Council (NC) has failed to take necessary action. Today, the DC has pulled up NC officers for negligence and directed immediate action against violators.

Some days back, The Tribune had highlighted the violation of norms by area residents who have converted their residential buildings into commercial ones. Then, Sangrur DC Jitendra Jorwal had directed NC officers to take immediate action like issuance of notice to violators and an immediate stop on the construction of new commercial buildings.

But still some big buildings are being readied by owners to rent those out and some owners of big institutes are also planning to start new ventures on the DC office road.

“Today, I have pulled up the NC staff for violation of norms as DC office road is a residential area. No commercial activity can take place here. No negligence will be tolerated and I have directed the NC staff to act quickly,” DC Jorwal told The Tribune.

Despite being residential area, the DC office road has seen the construction of big shops and other buildings in the past some years as NC authorities have failed to act.

Around one-and-a-half years back, the NC authorities had sealed some buildings, but after the transfer of NC staff, the same buildings were opened, owners rented those out and commercial activity will start from the same buildings in the coming days.

“It’s a residential road, but big commercial buildings have come up here without parking. Everyone parks vehicles on the road and cause accidents. It is happening near the District Administrative Complex where all senior officers sit,” said Kuldeep Singh, a resident.

NC Executive Officer Mohit Sharma said that they had started issuing notice to violators and would take further action.

“Being the city of CM Bhagwant Mann, he should look into the matter. If such violations are taking place in front of the DC office, then things would be worse in the other parts of the city,” said Jatinder Kumar, another resident.
