Debt mounting, Tarn Taran villager takes to drug trade
Gurjant Singh (35) of Dhotian village in Tarn Taran reportedly told the police during interrogation that he took to drug smuggling as he was mired in debt. He said he used to prepare and sell burgers and other fast food items around his village in Tarn Taran, but couldn’t do well financially. He then came into contact with a drug trafficker and started supplying heroin from Amritsar to Sriganganagar near Abohar.
He was caught carrying 200 gm heroin in Sriganganagar on Tuesday. The car used by him was also impounded. Sources said Gurjant had been supplying heroin arranged from Daljit Singh since last December. He said Daljit supplied him 200 gm heroin in Amritsar on Monday evening. He was asked to pay Rs 3.20 lakh to Satpal in Sriganganagar.
