Family members of a woman, who died after she jumped before a train yesterday, staged a sit-in outside the mortuary in the Abohar Civil Hospital. They demanded action against an individual, whom they accused of abetting the woman to allegedly end her life. The Government Railway Police are investigating the case.
Murti Devi, 53, was a resident of Dhani Mizzi Sahib village here. Her family members reached the hospital today but refused to take the body. Vishal, the deceased's son, accused a man from their village of frequently visiting their home and allegedly taking inappropriate photos and videos of her mother. He further alleged that the man had been blackmailing her for the past several months by sending the objectionable photos and videos to her relatives. His mother was deeply hurt by this, forcing her end her life by suicide.
Vishal also accused the man of attempting to kill him, He claimed despite lodging a complaint with the City-1 Abohar police, no action was taken. The family said they would not allow the postmortem until the police acted against the accused.
GRP officials said a case would be registered only when evidence supporting the allegation was provided. As of now, the police are thoroughly investigating the matter. The protest by the deceased's family continued till the filing of this report.
